About

My name is Joseph Rondeau, he/they, and I’m primarily a composer and arranger these days though I am also a theorist, educator, performer, and conductor. I recently finished my PhD in music composition from the University of Oregon where I worked as a Graduate Employee in the Composition and Music Theory departments. I currently serve as Music Director at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Eugene. I hold degrees from Tufts University (M.A. Music Composition) and the University of Massachusetts, Lowell (B.M. Performance, Voice).

Originally from Massachusetts where I grew up playing trombone and singing thinking that my focus wound be performing, but realized that the thing I preferred was composing. My focus lately has been finding ways to create music that speaks to LGBTQIA+ issues as well as mental health. My dissertation, we have to hear them, was premiered at the University of Oregon on April 25th 2026. It features a crowd-sourced text of collected first person witness about dealing with mental health. The work itself is something between a song cycle and a chamber opera, and I’m looking forward to its next performance.
