About

My name is Joseph Rondeau, he/they, and I’m primarily a composer these days though I am also a theorist, educator, performer, and conductor. I am currently a doctoral candidate in music composition (ABD) and a graduate teaching fellow with the University of Oregon Music Theory Department teaching aural skills. I also serve as Music Director at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Eugene. I hold degrees from Tufts University (M.A. Music Composition) and the University of Massachusetts, Lowell (B.M. Performance, Voice).

Originally from Massachusetts where I grew up playing trombone and singing thinking that my focus wound be performing, but realized that the thing I preferred was composing. My focus lately has been finding ways to create music that speaks to LGBTQIA+ issues as well as mental health. I am working on my dissertation which features a crowd-sourced text of collected first person witness about dealing with mental health. The musical work I am creating will be something between a song cycle and a chamber opera. Only time will tell.
